This Level 4 apprenticeship trains individuals to become the master of a small commercial vessel of less than 500 gross tonnage operating in near-coastal waters. Apprentices develop navigational, safety, and leadership skills needed to take legal command of a vessel and its crew. It can lead to command of larger vessels, senior maritime management roles, or harbour master positions.
