The Role & Expectations
As a debt and rent collector, you contact people and businesses to collect money that's owed. You'll be dealing with people who are stressed about their finances, so you need to be calm, fair and willing to listen. The job is not just about getting the money back - it's about understanding why someone can't pay and finding a way forward that works for them.
Your day involves phone calls, emails and sometimes letters. You'll review accounts, work out what someone can actually afford to pay, and agree a payment plan with them. You need to keep careful records, follow the law, and know when to hand a case over to lawyers. The work needs patience, honesty and the ability to stay professional even when a conversation gets difficult.
