Role overview

This Level 2 apprenticeship trains thatchers in the traditional craft of laying water reed, long straw, or combed wheat reed on roofs to create weatherproof, long-lasting thatch coverings. Apprentices develop practical skills in thatching techniques, ridge work, and the care of tools and materials. It can lead to roles as a Master Thatcher, running an independent thatching business, or specialising in heritage building conservation.
